Product Editorial: an add-to-cart button, and badge tags that ignore capitals

Cards in Product Editorial can now carry an add-to-cart button, and a badge rule matches its tag whether you typed Preorder or preorder.

Two changes to Modulo: Product Editorial, both from the same merchant.

An add-to-cart button on the card

Product Editorial was built as a quiet photography shelf: the whole card is one link to the product page and nothing else. That is still what it does out of the box, and nothing about an existing shelf changes.

There is now a Quick add group in the section settings with a checkbox, Show a cart button on each card. Turn it on and every card gets a button under the price.

What the button says depends on the product, and it is decided for you:

  • A product with one version gets your cart button. It adds without leaving the page, and your theme's own cart count and cart drawer update straight away.
  • A product with sizes or colours gets a Choose options link to the product page instead. A cart button there would have to guess which size to add, and we would rather not sell somebody a version they never picked.
  • A sold-out product shows your sold-out wording, greyed and not clickable.

All three sit in the same box, so the buttons line up across a row even when one card's name runs to two lines and its neighbour's does not. You can change the wording on the first two.

If you are on a phone with a bad connection, or JavaScript has not finished loading, the button still works — it just takes you to the cart page the way a normal form does.

Badge tags now ignore capitals

A badge rule matches a product tag. Shopify keeps the capitals you type, so a product tagged Preorder did not match a rule looking for preorder, and the badge simply did not appear, with nothing on screen to explain why.

They now match. Preorder, preorder and PREORDER are the same tag.

The theme editor now tells you when a badge rule found nothing

If a badge rule is looking for a tag that none of the products on the shelf carry, the theme editor now says so, and lists the tags those products actually have — so you can copy one straight across, or see that the products have no tags yet and go add one.

That message only ever appears while you are editing. Your customers never see it.
